Technical Documentation for Battery Energy Storage & Renewable Energy Assets
Clear technical information for complex energy systems.
Knowledge Vector provides specialist technical writing, technical illustration, training development and operational safety support for battery energy storage and renewable energy projects.
I work closely with engineers, commissioning personnel, subject-matter experts and end users to understand complex systems, interrogate technical information and develop documentation that supports safe installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
Recent BESS Experience
My recent work has focused extensively on commercial and grid-level battery energy storage systems, including battery integrated EV charging technologies.
Projects have involved translating engineering information, OEM documentation, design data and regulatory requirements into clear, structured documentation for installers, commissioning personnel, system integrators, operators and maintainers.
This work has included close collaboration with electrical, mechanical, controls, compliance and commissioning engineers.
BESS Documentation Capability
I can support BESS projects with:
Product and technical manuals
Installation instructions
Commissioning procedures and checklists
Operating procedures
Maintenance schedules and instructions
Application notes
Control documentation
System monitoring and operator guides
Electrical safety information
Emergency and fault-response documentation
Conformance and post-installation checklists
Technical illustrations and diagrams
Training and assessment materials
More than technical writing
Good technical documentation helps people understand systems, perform tasks correctly and manage risks.
My approach considers the equipment, tasks and intended users, as well as the practical conditions in which the documentation will be used. I routinely:
question processes and proposed work methods
identify gaps, inconsistencies and missing information
resolve technical issues with engineers and SMEs
consider operational hazards and foreseeable errors
tailor content to different user groups
structure procedures for safe, consistent work
use diagrams, warnings and checklists where helpful
adjust technical detail and terminology to suit the audience.
My work health and safety background enables me to integrate hazards, controls, sequencing, and human error into documentation from the outset. This is especially valuable for electrical system commissioning, isolation, maintenance and other safety-critical tasks.
I develop documentation and training for system integrators, installers, commissioning personnel, engineers, maintenance and support teams, and asset owners.
The result is practical documentation that helps people work safely, consistently and effectively.
Broader Energy & Industrial Experience
My BESS experience sits within more than 20 years of technical writing, training and safety work across energy, mining, rail, heavy engineering, manufacturing, petrochemical, heavy transport and defence environments.
This breadth of experience is particularly useful on emerging technologies where engineering, operations, safety and training requirements intersect.
Project Support
Knowledge Vector can support a defined documentation package, supplement an existing engineering team or assist during periods of high project workload.
I am available for remote project work and can work directly with engineering and operational teams during design, testing, commissioning and documentation development.
Soon to be based in Central Otago, New Zealand, and available to support projects throughout New Zealand, Australia and beyond.
